About

Built in 1740 and standing where the High Street widens, The Crown is the other Adnams house in the centre of town and the one locals send you to when The Swan feels too formal. Dark wood tables, a deliberate mismatch of old and new chairs and old pictures on the walls; a seasonal menu that changes often and a drinks list that goes well beyond the brewery's own beers. It works equally as a lunch stop on a walk between the Market Place and Gun Hill and as a proper dinner. Tables are booked through the pub's own reservation system. Rooms are available upstairs, so it doubles as one of the town's three central places to stay.
