About

York's smallest pub and one of its best loved: a tiny Fossgate front room and back snug, licensed since 1798, with an Edwardian interior last decorated in 1903 and preserved almost untouched since. Five cask ales are always on, kept by an award-winning cellarman, and the house rules are part of the charm: no music, no TVs, no phones at the bar, and share your table with strangers. A recent York CAMRA Pub of the Year; it genuinely turns people away when full, so go early or midweek.
