Skye's main town: a harbour of painted houses, and the bus stand for the Storr and the Trotternish loop

The king's port, or the slope harbour

Portree is the main town on the Isle of Skye, with about 2,310 people by the 2020 figure Wikipedia gives. The harbour is fringed by cliffs, the pier was designed by Thomas Telford, and the Royal Hotel stands on the site of MacNab's Inn, where Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie last met in 1746.

Above the harbour is the Lump, Am Meall, a rocky knoll where the Skye Highland Games are held each August, topped by the Apothecary's Tower that Dr Alexander MacLeod built in the 1830s. The Storr is about ten kilometres north in a straight line, and the town's bus stand is how most people without a car reach it.
