The Quiraing
6.5 km, per Walkhighlands · 374 m ascent, per Walkhighlands elevation
About
The landslip at the northern end of the Trotternish ridge, with the rock formations called the Prison, the Needle and the Table. Walkhighlands gives the standard walk as 6.5 km, 3 to 4 hours, with 374 metres of ascent: a good path at first, then rough and rocky with one minor scramble and a gully that needs care, and a return over the hill that is exposed to bad weather. It warns walkers to keep back from the cliff edge, says the Prison is for competent scramblers only, and leaves out the Table because its ascent and descent are extremely steep and loose. The walk starts at a car park at the top of the minor road between Staffin and Uig, about 25 km north of Portree in a straight line. There is no bus to it: Walkhighlands says the nearest service bus stop is 3 km away at Brogaig, near Staffin, which the Stagecoach 57A reaches from Portree in a little over half an hour on the October 2026 timetable.
