Scorrybreac Circuit
3 km, per Walkhighlands · 164 m ascent, per Walkhighlands elevation
About
The walk from town that needs no bus. It starts at a parking bay at the bottom of Scorrybreck Road, less than a kilometre from the centre, and Walkhighlands gives it as 3 km, 1 to 2 hours, with 164 metres of ascent. A tarmac path follows the wooded shore of the harbour past Portree sailing club's boathouse, then crosses a footbridge onto a headland bought by members of Clan Nicolson; a Geograph caption notes a memorial above Torvaig marking the site of Scorrybreac House, the clan's ancestral home. The shore path looks across to Raasay and to Ben Tianavaig, where Walkhighlands says white-tailed eagles nest. The second half climbs a steep zigzag path on rough stones and comes back down through birch wood to the Cuillin Hills Hotel and the road.
