Skye Live fills the Lump with music in early May; the 2027 festival is announced for 6 to 8 May.
Spring is when the bus timetable and the boat trips start to fill out again, so read the current Stagecoach and Citylink timetables for the week you arrive rather than last year's. Skye Live, the music festival in Portree, is announced for 6 to 8 May 2027; in 2026 the council licence put it on Am Meall, the Lump. The Storr path is at its best before the summer crowds, but Walkhighlands warns that the rockfall section should be avoided after heavy rain, and spring on Skye can bring plenty of that. The Scorrybreac circuit, which starts less than a kilometre from the square, is the walk to do on a day when the ridge is in cloud.
Peak season. The Storr car park fills, the walk-in seafood restaurants queue, and the Skye Games take over the Lump in early August.
Summer is when Portree is at full stretch. The West Highland Free Press put the Storr at around 200,000 visitors a year in 2024, and the car park at the foot of the path charges £6 for up to six hours and £8 for up to twelve, per the Storr's own parking page. Taking the Trotternish bus from Somerled Square avoids the car park altogether. The Lower Deck and Sea Breezes do not take reservations, so eat early or late. The Isle of Skye Half Marathon is announced for Saturday 12 June 2027, and the Skye Highland Games were held on the Lump on Wednesday 5 August 2026, with the 2027 date still to come from the organisers.
Buses thin out: the October 2026 Trotternish timetable runs Monday to Saturday, with no Sunday journeys shown.
Autumn is quieter and the timetables shrink with it. The Stagecoach 57A and 57C timetables for October 2026 show Monday to Saturday journeys round Trotternish and none on Sundays, and the MacDonald's Coaches 608 towards Carbost runs on weekdays. Check before you plan a walk around a bus. Scorrybreac says it serves its tasting menu Monday to Saturday through October 2026. The Isles Inn on Somerled Square says it has live ceilidh music through the year.
Short days and a reduced ferry timetable at Mallaig, which runs its winter schedule from 19 October 2026 to 25 March 2027.
Winter in Portree is the town without the visitors, and with short days. CalMac's Mallaig to Armadale winter timetable runs from 19 October 2026 to 25 March 2027, and CalMac says to book even as a foot passenger. The Portree Hotel says Antlers serves lunch and dinner every day of the year, and Gasta at the Isle of Skye Candle Co. visitor centre lists daily opening until 9pm. With so little daylight, a wet afternoon is better spent at the candle workshop window, on the harbour, or up the Apothecary's Tower for the view over the bay.
