A railway resort on the Tummel
Pitlochry is a small town on the River Tummel in Highland Perthshire, in Perth and Kinross. Wikipedia calls it largely a Victorian town: the railway arrived in 1863, the Athole Hydropathic, now the Atholl Palace Hotel, opened in 1878, and the main street carried the A9 until the bypass of 1981.
The older places are on the edges. Moulin, up the hill, has an inn that says it opened in 1695. Port-na-Craig, across the river, has the theatre, which began in a tent in 1951. Between them, the dam holds back Loch Faskally, and the salmon go up beside it.
