No42 occupies the High Street building that traded for years as the Sands Hotel, which was sold in 2022 and reopened under the GuestHouse group. That history matters practically, because a lot of older Margate coverage still points people at the Sands, and the Sands' old web domain is now an unclaimed page rather than a hotel. No42 sits between the High Street and the seafront, so Main Sands, Dreamland and the Old Town are all a few minutes on foot, and the station is about ten. It is the most conventionally hotel-like of Margate's better rooms, with a rooftop bar, which on this coast means a north-facing sunset view over the water.
