Llangollen Right Now

Llangollen's weather is a valley's weather: sheltered in town, exposed on the castle hill and the Panorama. Check the forecast for the tops before you climb to Dinas Brân.

A river town with a canal above it

Llangollen grew up round its bridge over the Dee, and the river still runs white through the middle of it. Above it, the Llangollen Canal runs along the hillside from the wharf to the Horseshoe Falls, the weir that feeds the whole World Heritage canal, and the horse-drawn boats go out from the wharf most of the year.

It is also a town that knows how to host. The Royal International Pavilion on Abbey Road takes the International Eisteddfod every July, the heritage railway runs up the valley to Corwen, and the castle on the hill is a steep walk from the bridge, free to wander once you are up there.
