About
The ruin on its own hill above the town is Castell Dinas Brân, built in the 1260s and abandoned after 1277. It belongs to Denbighshire County Council, which looks after it with Cadw's help, and Wikipedia's record of the site has it open to the public all year at no charge. The usual walk starts at the bridge over the Dee: Walking Britain's route is about 4 miles there and back with around 900 feet of climbing, and the path climbs steeply. The map pin is the castle; the walk starts at Llangollen Bridge, about 1.2km south-west in a straight line.
