About

The Canal & River Trust's own walk from Llangollen Wharf to the Horseshoe Falls: 3.2km, or 2 miles, along the towpath. You pass the moorings of Llangollen Basin, go under the A542 at Tower Bridge, and reach Pentrefelin Bridge with the ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey just to the north. From Ty-Craig Bridge the towpath shares a lane to the Chainbridge Hotel, so watch for cars, and the Trust picks out the viewpoint over the Chain Bridge, the river and Berwyn station. Just past the hotel, King's Bridge, built between 1902 and 1906 and named for Edward VII's coronation, crosses the river and the canal. The walk ends at Telford's weir, a 140-metre semicircle across the Dee at Llantysilio that the Trust says sends 12 million gallons of water a day along the canal to Hurleston Reservoir. Berwyn station is close by, so one way on foot and one way by train works.
