About

A seventeenth-century country house in twenty acres under the flank of Arthur's Seat, with peacocks on the lawns and Edinburgh's most maximalist interiors: velvet, gilt and candlelight from the same owner as the Witchery, James Thomson. Its 23 bedrooms and suites hold five AA Red Stars and Relais & Chateaux membership, plus a Michelin Key and The Good Hotel Guide's Best Hotel in Scotland 2025 by the hotel's own account, and the Rhubarb restaurant (the plant was first grown in Scotland on this estate, hence the name) serves daily until 10pm. Ten minutes by taxi from the centre and a world away from it.
