Town
The city centre is hilly and heavily cobbled: the Old Town in particular involves steep closes, long flights of steps and uneven setts, while the New Town's grid is flatter but still sloping. Princes Street Gardens, the National Museum, the National Gallery and most major attractions have step-free routes; Edinburgh Trams are level-boarding throughout and Lothian Buses are low-floor.
For venue-level access details contact each venue directly. Arthur's Seat's summit paths are steep, rough and not wheelchair accessible; the lower Holyrood Park roads and Queen's Drive offer flatter routes with crag views.

Note Edinburgh's city-centre Low Emission Zone: enforced continuously since 1 June 2024 with camera-issued penalty charges for non-compliant vehicles (edinburgh.gov.uk/lez); most modern petrol and diesel cars comply, but check before driving in.
