Trenchers
New Quay Road, Whitby, North Yorkshire
About
Established in 1980 on New Quay Road, across the harbour from the Magpie and the other half of Whitby's fish and chip argument. Trenchers fries in beef dripping, which is the traditional method here and a real difference in taste against an oil fryer, and runs a long menu of seafood salads, crab, lobster, Whitby scampi and homemade pies alongside the fish. The room is big, boothed and busy, which is exactly what people want on a wet August afternoon with children in tow. Its own site claims the National Fish and Chip Awards' UK's Best Fish and Chip Restaurant title in 2019 and 2026. There is a separate takeaway counter alongside the restaurant.
