Quayside
7 Pier Road, Whitby, North Yorkshire
About
The third name in the fish and chip conversation, a few doors along Pier Road from the Magpie and quietly preferred by a lot of people who live here precisely because it is not the one on the postcards. Quayside makes a point of sustainable sourcing on its own site and takes table bookings, which on a busy Saturday is worth more than any award. There is a lounge bar upstairs and a webcam on the site if you want to see how bad the Pier Road crowd is before you set off, which is a genuinely useful piece of planning most towns do not offer.

More Restaurant Restaurants
Magpie Café
The famous black and white fish restaurant on Pier Road, with the queue to match. Book ahead and you skip it.
Trenchers
A big, boothed harbour-side fish restaurant frying in beef dripping since 1980. The Magpie's main rival, and closer to the station.
Hadley's Fish & Chips
A three-generation family chippy on Bridge Street, open since 1937. Smaller, earlier-closing, and on the old-town side of the bridge.
