About

A thatched 17th-century inn in the hamlet of Binsey on the far side of Port Meadow, on a site that has served drinkers for something like 800 years, reached by a lane off the Thames Path. The big walled garden is the best pub garden within reach of central Oxford, with a weekend Shed Bar in summer, and the kitchen serves proper pub food daily from noon to 9pm alongside real ales and an unusually serious list of English wines. Lewis Carroll connections are claimed here, as they are all over Oxford, but the walk across the meadow is the real reason to come: it earns the pint.
