East Oxford's benchmark gastropub on Iffley Road, run since 2009 by people connected to London's famous Anchor & Hope, with a daily changing seasonal menu that moves between British and southern European cooking: focaccia and small plates through to big roasted joints for the table. It keeps proper pub hours and a proper pub front bar alongside the dining room, books tables online for up to ten, and closes on Mondays. Worth the fifteen-minute walk or short bus ride from the centre; this is where Oxford's food-minded locals actually eat.
