Ice cream, chips and seafood: eating along the Mumbles seafront

Joe's ice cream, where the Verdi's team went after the fire, fish and chips on the pier, lunch above Bracelet Bay and at Langland, and the pub that brews its own beer.

Eating in Mumbles is mostly done outside, or at least with a view of outside. The village's food runs along the seafront from Oystermouth to Knab Rock and round the headland to the bays, and the three things it does best are ice cream, fish and chips and a seafood lunch with your feet near the sand. This guide goes along the coast in that order. Hours are as the venues publish them on their own sites as of October 2026; where a venue does not publish them, we say so rather than guess.

Ice cream: Joe's, and Verdi's in exile

Mumbles has two ice cream names and, for now, one ice cream counter. Joe's is a Swansea company marking a hundred years of Italian ice cream made in Wales, and its Mumbles parlour on Mumbles Road opened in 1984. It is open every day from 10:30 to 19:30, but the seating area closes at five, so an evening cone is a takeaway to the prom wall across the road.

Verdi's, the big family-run Italian cafe at Knab Rock, was closed by a fire on 30 July 2026. Its owners told Swansea Bay News in September that insurers had accepted the claim and that they were aiming to reopen by Easter 2027, while warning it could be nearer summer. Its own website still shows its normal opening hours, so do not rely on it. In the meantime the Verdi's team and most of the menu have moved round the corner to the Lighthouse at Bracelet Bay, run by the same family business.

Lunch on the front

The Oyster House, on Oyster Wharf in the middle of the village, is a Young's pub with rooms and the easiest all-day option: breakfast from eight until noon, lunch until five, dinner until nine (half eight on Sundays). The menu leans on the sea, with Maldon rock oysters, popcorn cockles and fish from Swansea Fish, and there is a roof terrace. Book on its own site or by phone.

Fish and chips on the pier

Copperfish is the pier company's own fish restaurant and takeaway at the shore end of Mumbles Pier. The 2022 fire destroyed the old buildings at the base of the pier, and many travel guides still list Copperfish as gone, but it is serving again: the takeaway opens every day from noon to eight, the sit-down restaurant at weekends. Cod and chips, homemade pies, rissoles and cockles, with gluten-free fish available. On Fridays from five to six, a takeaway cod and chips is £6. Eat it on the wall looking at the lighthouse.

Round the corner: Bracelet Bay and Langland

The Lighthouse Bar & Kitchen sits in the glass building above Bracelet Bay that many directories still call Castellamare; it reopened under its current name on 1 November 2022. It belongs to Secret Hospitality Group, the same family business as Verdi's, and since September 2026 it has been the temporary home of the Verdi's team: pizza, pasta and the custard slices, with Bracelet Bay and the lighthouse out of the window instead of the pier. It takes walk-ins and online or phone bookings, but not bookings for the terrace. Its website and its social media gave different autumn hours, so ring before you make a special trip.

Langland's Brasserie is on the prom at the far end of Langland Bay, at the end of the coast walk from the pier. It opens every day from ten, serves breakfast until eleven, and specialises in seafood, with fish specials every day. Book inside tables online through its reservations page, or by phone if the time you want is not showing; the terrace cannot be reserved. Dogs are welcome outside and in the bar, not in the main dining room.

Drinking

The Pilot on Mumbles Road at Knab Rock is the pub people who care about beer come for. It was built in 1849, sits next to the coast path, and brews its own beer on site: CAMRA's Swansea branch says seven ales are always on, usually including up to three of its own, and named it Swansea CAMRA Pub of the Year 2026. CAMRA's listing mentions no food, its old website has lapsed, and it publishes no hours, so ring 07897 895511 if timing matters.

The Taproom on Newton Road is Gower Brewery's own bar and shop in the village, with the brewery's ales, lagers and cider on tap, plus coffee and homemade cakes. Dogs on leads are welcome. It opens seven days a week, with seasonal hours on its social media.

Buying food to take home

On the second Saturday of every month, Mumbles Market fills the Dairy car park on Mumbles Road from nine until one, with local produce, bread, meat, hot food and makers' stalls. The next published dates are 14 November and 12 December 2026.

What we left out, and why

Patricks with Rooms is the name most guides give first for a smart dinner in Mumbles. We have not listed it, because the main address of its website currently serves an unrelated gambling page, and we will not send readers to a link like that. We will add it when its own site is back under its control. On the Rocks, the steakhouse by the pier where you finish your own steak on a hot stone, is also missing for now: we could not find an official website to check its hours and booking against.
