Local Essentials
The practical stuff most travel sites skip. Everything you need to know before visiting Mumbles, from parking to pharmacies.
Accessibility
Town
The prom and the bay path are flat, and the rebuilt promenade opened in 2025 is wider than the old one. Newton Road climbs steadily from Oystermouth Square, and the castle sits on a steep hill above it. The coast path beyond the pier has climbs and steps.
Oystermouth Castle has limited access: Swansea Council says the visitor centre and surfaced paths (some steep) are accessible, but the castle interior has steps and uneven floors.
ATMs & Banking
Cash machines in the village
Newton Road and Mumbles Road around Oystermouth Square
Cards are accepted almost everywhere; carry a little cash for market stalls and the pier arcade.
Emergency Services
General Emergency
999 or 112
Coast Guard
999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. The islands off Mumbles Head are cut off by the tide and the Mumbles lifeboat is regularly called to people stranded on them.
Police Station
Policing here is South Wales Police. Call 101 for non-emergencies and 999 or 112 in an emergency.
Mumbles has no emergency department, and neither does Singleton Hospital on the way into Swansea. The 24-hour emergency department for Swansea Bay is Morriston Hospital, Heol Maes Eglwys, Morriston, Swansea, SA6 6NL, 01792 702222, about 13km north-east of Mumbles in a straight line and further by road through the city. NHS 111 Wales lists it as open 24 hours, seven days a week. Patients with minor injuries are redirected from Morriston to the Minor Injury Unit at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, so ring 111 first for anything that is not an emergency.
01792 702222Mumbles Medical Practice
The NHS GP practice listed by NHS 111 Wales, about 0.8km north-west of Oystermouth Square in a straight line. Visitors who are not registered should call NHS 111 Wales first; outside surgery hours the out-of-hours service is reached on 111.
NHS 111 Wales is free and answers 24 hours for urgent advice and the out-of-hours GP service. For anything at sea, on the rocks or on the islands, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard rather than the police.
Luggage Storage
There is no left-luggage service in Mumbles. Ask your accommodation to hold bags.
