Travelling to Mumbles by train

Getting to Mumbles

How to reach Mumbles by train, bus, car, or bicycle.

Train

Mumbles has had no railway since the Mumbles train closed in January 1960. The nearest station is Swansea (CRS code SWA), on High Street in the city centre, about 6.8km from the middle of Mumbles in a straight line. From the station, walk down to Swansea Bus Station, about 900 metres away, and take a First Cymru bus round the bay: the 3A from stand W runs about every half hour on weekdays and reaches Oystermouth Square in roughly 45 minutes. No bus on these routes starts at the railway station itself, so allow ten to fifteen minutes for the walk.

Car

Mumbles is at the end of the road round Swansea Bay, about 6km from Swansea city centre along Mumbles Road. Traffic backs up along the bay on sunny weekends. Swansea Council runs the seafront car parks: Knab Rock (112 spaces) by the pier end of the prom, the Dairy car park (39 spaces) by Oystermouth Square, and Bracelet Bay above the beach. All are pay and display, open 24 hours, and on the council's late-2025 tariff an hour cost £2.50.

Bike

The flat shared path round Swansea Bay follows the line of the old Mumbles train from the city to Knab Rock, and the new promenade opened in 2025 widened the Mumbles end of it. It is the easiest way to arrive from Swansea on two wheels, with ice cream at the end.
