A small ale and cider house on Market Street in the Old Town, now trading as The Lifeboat by Floc after the Margate brewer Floc took it on. It is a proper drinking pub: bare boards, casks, no music policy to speak of, and the kind of room where standing up counts as a seat on a Friday. Closed Monday and Tuesday, which is worth knowing before you plan an Old Town crawl around it, and open to midnight Friday and Saturday. If you want to understand the difference between the Margate that arrived after 2015 and the Margate that was already here, an hour in this pub and an hour in a Harbour Arm wine bar will tell you more than any amount of reading.
