Strawberry Field
About
Strawberry Field was a Salvation Army children's home in Woolton, a short walk from where John Lennon grew up, and the red gates became famous through the 1967 song. The Salvation Army now runs it as a visitor centre, with an exhibition on Lennon's childhood and the story of the home told through archive film and photographs, and a media guide to take you round. Afterwards you can walk the gardens and woods, and there is a cafe and gift shop. The site is also home to the Salvation Army's Steps to Work programme.
