The Anglican Cathedral of Christ Church, designed by Giles Gilbert Scott (who was 22 when he won the competition) and built between 1904 and 1978, is the largest cathedral in Britain and among the largest in the world, standing on St James Mount above the city centre. The Tower Experience takes visitors up two lifts and 108 stairs to a rooftop platform 101 metres up the Vestey Tower, with a 360-degree view that on a clear day reaches Blackpool Tower, past the world's heaviest peal of bells in the Bell Chamber along the way. General entry to the cathedral itself is free; the Tower Experience is ticketed and is not possible while the bells are ringing.
