A plain, cheerful pub at the top of Bayard's Cove, with benches on the cobbles outside looking down towards the old fort and the river mouth. The menu runs from sandwiches, burgers made on the premises and crab cakes to pizzas and Tex-Mex, and everything can be taken away. The pub's own site says food is served from 1pm to 9pm seven days a week, and that same-day online booking is not available: phone or call in to book. The draught list includes Exmoor's Wicked Wolf, Otter and Sharp's Atlantic, and the gin shelf is mostly Devon, Distinctly Dartmouth Gin among them.
