The Cherub
13 Higher Street, Dartmouth, Devon TQ6 9RB
About
The timber-framed merchant's house at 13 Higher Street, its upper floors jettied out over the lane. Local lore puts it at 1380; the Grade II* listing entry says probably the second half of the 15th century, restored around 1958, and calls it the oldest complete house still standing in Dartmouth, so treat the 1380 as the story rather than the date. CAMRA's South Devon branch describes a small bar downstairs with old ships' timbers in the beams and six handpumps, and a steep winding stair up to the dining room on the two floors above. It is a squeeze when it is busy. No website for the pub was found, so check opening times locally.
