Marcie Regan's stands at Newtown, right at the end of the medieval bridge over the Boyne and about a kilometre and a half downriver from the castle, which makes it the natural finish to the walk out to the Newtown ruins. It sits on the local road that crosses the bridge, not on either of the regional roads out of Trim, so it is a turn off the Dublin Road rather than something you pass. It is a small, dark, low-ceilinged country pub of the kind that has almost gone, and the house claim is one of the oldest publican's licences in Ireland. It keeps its own hours rather than advertised ones, so it is a pub to find open rather than to plan around, and it is worth checking on the day if you are counting on it.
