Guillamene and Newtown Cove

About
Two rock coves under the cliffs west of the town, and the year-round heart of swimming in Tramore. The Newtown and Guillamene Swimming Club has run them for more than seventy-five years; the Guillamene was men only until the early 1980s and the painted sign saying so is still there, which visitors photograph and locals ignore. Steps and handrails go down into deep water off a concrete platform, upgraded in 2010. Both coves hold Green Coast awards for 2026. There is no lifeguard at either, ever.

Highlights
- ✓Deep water off a concrete platform, no wading in
- ✓Green Coast awards for 2026 at both coves
- ✓The old men-only sign at the Guillamene
- ✓Free clifftop car park at Newtown Cove
Tips
- →No lifeguard at either cove at any time of year, and the entry is deep water straight off the steps.
- →Do not get in on a big south or southeast swell; the platform takes the sea over it.
- →The Newtown Cove car park is small and full by nine on a fine morning.
