About
Patrick Clarke, Wine and Spirit Merchant, painted in gold on a dark board over the front of a three-storey house on Peter Street: that is the whole signage and it has not needed changing. Clarke's is the pub people send you to when you ask where to get a proper pint in Drogheda, an unreconstructed spirit-grocer front with the timber pilasters still in place and no attempt at a food offer or a screen in the corner. It is a drinking pub and a talking pub. Do not arrive expecting a menu, and do not arrive at noon expecting it to be busy; this is an evening room.
