Accessibility

Town Centre

The main shopping streets on the north bank are level and mostly pedestrianised or footpathed, and Scotch Hall on the south bank is fully accessible. The obstacle in Drogheda is the river: crossings are limited and the climb from the south quays up to Millmount is short but steep.

Millmount

The climb to Millmount is up a steep street, and the Martello tower involves stairs. Contact the museum directly about access before travelling.

Highlanes

Highlanes Gallery states that all public areas of the building are wheelchair accessible, with courtesy manual wheelchairs available at reception, while noting that converting a building of the former Friary church's age posed challenges and some areas need careful navigation.

Boann Distillery

Boann Distillery is accessible via a wheelchair lift beside the disabled parking spaces, the distillery and gift shop are fully wheelchair accessible, and tours are accessible with a modified route. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome.

For venue-level access, contact each place directly. Access at the Bru na Boinne monuments themselves is limited and the OPW asks wheelchair users to email before booking.

Emergency Services

General Emergency

112 or 999

Coast Guard

The Boyne through Drogheda is a tidal river with a working port and strong currents, not a swimming beach. For an incident on the water dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard. The Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service is the local volunteer river rescue unit and is coordinated through the emergency services rather than called directly.

Garda Station

Drogheda Garda Station, Father Connolly Way, Drogheda, Co. Louth, A92 P704. Telephone +353 41 987 4200. For anything urgent dial 112 or 999.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Windmill Road, Moneymore, Drogheda, Co. Louth, A92 VW28. It is in the town itself, about 1km north of the town centre, and is the regional acute hospital for Louth and Meath with a 24-hour Emergency Department for all ages.
