About

A small working harbour at the northern end of Dalkey, built by the monks of St Mary's Abbey in the medieval period and still used by fishermen and a few small boats. Seals gather by the slip waiting for the returning boats, which makes it a reliable spot to see them up close. Kayakers launch from here on calm days, and it is a quieter walk than Coliemore.

Highlights

  • Seals by the slipway most days
  • Working fishing harbour with medieval origins
  • Kayak launch on calm water

Tips

  • Do not feed the seals; keep dogs under control near the slip
  • Calmer and quieter than Coliemore
  • On the coast road between Dalkey and Sandycove
