Local Essentials
The practical stuff most travel sites skip. Everything you need to know before visiting Dalkey, from parking to pharmacies.
Accessibility
Castle Street
The village core along Castle Street is mostly level with footpaths, though they narrow in places and parking is tight.
Dalkey Castle
Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre involves stairs to the battlements and uneven ground in the medieval churchyard; the ground-floor exhibition is accessible but the full tour includes steps. Contact the centre in advance about access.
Cats Ladder
The Cat's Ladder is 238 uneven stone steps from the Vico Road up to Dalkey Hill and is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.
Dalkey Hill
Dalkey Hill and the quarry are reached by unpaved, sometimes steep paths within Killiney Hill Park; the main park entrances off Dalkey Avenue are gentler than the Cat's Ladder.
Dart
Dalkey DART station is a small suburban station. Ramp boarding can be pre-arranged with Iarnród Éireann (call 1850 366 222 ahead of travel).
For venue-level access, contact each venue directly. The coastal walks and the hill involve uneven ground and steps.
