The building at the bottom of Main Street that everyone photographs. In The Quiet Man it is the bar where Sean Thornton is refused a drink, and the exterior is unchanged, but the joke locals enjoy is that when John Ford's crew arrived in 1951 the premises was a grocery shop. The owners say so themselves: the bar was born out of the film and dates itself to 1952. It trades now as a public bar and a separate dining room, serving lunch from noon to 5pm and dinner from 5pm to 9pm, with craft beer and a wine list alongside the Guinness, and it is run by Sharon McGrath and Ray Kenny with the chef Paul Power. The rooms are dense with film material and the walls are worth reading. It keeps a winter break and reopens on 5 February, which catches people out.
