Holy Trinity Abbey (Trinitarian)

Holy Trinity Abbey was founded around 1226 to 1240 as a house of the Trinitarian order, the only Trinitarian foundation in Ireland, and it survives today as the Catholic parish church of Adare on Main Street. Because it is still in use as a church it is visitable, and it gives you a medieval religious building you can actually step inside rather than a roofless ruin. The tower and parts of the medieval fabric remain within the working church. It sits right on the village street, so it is an easy stop on the walk between the thatched cottages and the other ruins.

A 13th-century Norman castle by the River Maigue, on a guided tour that runs daily June to end September only, with a shuttle from the Heritage Centre.
