Franciscan Friary Ruins
About
The Franciscan Friary is a 15th-century ruin of 1464 on the banks of the River Maigue, one of the trio of medieval religious houses that make Adare unusually rich in monastic remains. There is an important catch: the friary sits on the Adare Manor golf grounds, so public access is not guaranteed and may be restricted, especially during the works and preparations around the 2027 Ryder Cup. Do not assume you can walk to it freely; check locally at the Heritage Centre for current access before setting out. When it can be reached, the roofless friary with its cloister and tower is the most atmospheric of the ruins.
