About

Adnams is the reason Southwold smells of malt on a brewing day. George and Ernest Adnams bought the Sole Bay Brewery here in 1872, and the company says brewing on this site is documented back to the fourteenth century. The 90-minute tour follows the modern brewhouse from grain to glass and finishes with a tasting across the range, from pale ale and lager through stout, bitter and barley wine, all brewed in Southwold. Tours cost 27.50 pounds, are for over-18s only, and depart from the Adnams Tours Centre in The Swan Courtyard on the Market Place, reached through the archway next to The Swan's entrance. Everyone leaves with a voucher for a free memento from the Southwold store.
