Southwold's most serious restaurant occupies a medieval High Street building dated to 1455, with a pargetted ceiling of 1660 upstairs, and cooks a predominantly seafood and plant-based menu with a garden and coast bias. Service is adults only and runs on fixed sittings: every table starts at either 6.30pm or 7pm, with nothing later. Opening days move with the season, Tuesday to Saturday from March to October, and Thursday to Saturday plus Sunday lunch from November to February, so check before you plan an evening around it. Tables of two are the only size bookable online; the single table of four on the 6.30pm sitting has to be arranged by email. In summer there is a covered outdoor dining area, though the kitchen reserves the right to move everyone inside if the weather turns, which on this coast it does. Dress code is smart casual and no dogs are admitted, inside or out.
