← All things to do

About

The flight of eight locks at Banavie that lifts the Caledonian Canal 19 metres (62 feet), built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822. Scottish Canals calls it the longest staircase lock in Scotland and says a boat takes around 90 minutes to work up or down it. It is on the Great Glen Way, with walking and cycling paths along the canal, and Scottish Canals describes it as overlooked by Ben Nevis.
