Old Inverlochy Castle

About

The ruined castle at Inverlochy, north of the town centre, not to be confused with the Victorian Inverlochy Castle hotel at Torlundy. Historic Environment Scotland says much of what stands was built by the 'Red' Comyns, lords of Badenoch and Lochaber, in the 1200s, and that few castles of that age survive unaltered in Scotland; Inverlochy is one of the most complete. At the moment the castle is closed for conservation work and can be viewed through protective fencing, though some of the grounds are open. HES lists parking.
