The city's Victorian indoor market, trading on this site since 1891 under a glass-and-iron roof between St Mary Street and Trinity Street. Downstairs is still a proper market: fishmongers, butchers, fruit and veg, a legendary breakfast counter or two; upstairs on the balcony are records, haberdashery, hardware and a growing cluster of good food stalls, including a Hard Lines coffee counter. This is where you buy Welsh cakes made in front of you and hear Cardiff accents at full strength. Open Monday to Saturday, roughly 8am to 5:30pm; closed Sundays.
