Getting to Canterbury
How to reach Canterbury by train, bus, taxi, car, or bicycle.
Train
Canterbury has two mainline stations on different lines, both operated by Southeastern. Canterbury West serves the high-speed HS1 route to London St Pancras International (around 1 hour) plus the coastal line toward Margate and Ramsgate. Canterbury East serves the Chatham Main Line toward London Victoria and London Cannon Street (around 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes) plus the line south toward Dover Priory and north toward Faversham. Confirm which station your train uses before travelling; they are about a 15 to 20 minute walk apart on opposite sides of the old town.

Bus

Car
Canterbury is just off the A2/M2 route between London and Dover, roughly 90 minutes from central London by car in normal traffic. The old town's medieval street pattern is not built for cars: parking inside the walls is very limited and best avoided. Three park and ride sites (Wincheap and New Dover Road for traffic from the south, Sturry Road for traffic from the east) are the recommended way in by car, each with a short bus link into the centre.
