The Lanes
About half a mile of wandering ·
About
The Lanes are a tangle of narrow alleyways in the old fishing quarter of Brighton, now packed with jewellers, vintage shops, and small cafes. There is no set route, and the fun is in getting slightly lost between Ship Street and East Street and stumbling on independent shops you would not find on a main road. It gets busy on weekends, so a weekday morning wander is more relaxed if you actually want to browse rather than shuffle through crowds. A guided walking tour is worth it if you want the history rather than just the shopping, since a lot of the alley layout dates back centuries and is easy to miss on your own.
Highlights
