The Coal Shed
Clarence House, 30-31 North Street, Brighton, BN1 1EB
About
The Coal Shed built its name on Boyce's Street as a serious steak and grill restaurant, all charred flavour from a Josper oven, and moved to a bigger site on North Street in 2024. It shares an owner with The Salt Room and keeps the same focus on quality meat and fish cooked simply over coals, alongside a deep red wine list. The room is dark and confident, built for a proper dinner rather than a quick bite, and it gets busy on weekend nights. It suits anyone wanting a serious carnivore's meal in the centre of town rather than by the sea.
