The Scallop Shell
22 Monmouth Place, Bath, BA1 2AY
About
A fish and chip restaurant and seafood grill on Monmouth Place that has collected national fish-and-chip awards and a loyal local following. The frying is the point, lightly battered cod and haddock done properly, but the daily seafood from the morning coastal markets is what separates it from a standard chippy: whole fish on the grill, shellfish when the boats have them. Marco Pierre White has called it his favourite restaurant in Somerset and Wiltshire. Tables can be booked online, and the room fills fast at classic fish-supper hours.
