Getting to Bakewell
How to reach Bakewell by train, bus, car, or bicycle.
Nearest railway station
Bakewell has no railway station. Its old station on the Midland line is now a stop on the Monsal Trail, and trains have not called there since the line closed in the late 1960s. The nearest station is Matlock (National Rail code MAT), managed by East Midlands Railway; it is about 11.5km south-east of Bakewell in a straight line. From Matlock the TransPeak bus, run by High Peak, leaves Matlock Interchange, Stand 1, which sits right beside the station, about 30 metres from Station Yard. It reaches Bakewell Matlock Street in about 25 minutes and runs roughly hourly through the day on weekdays, on the timetable published from Bus Open Data on 13 September 2026. Trentbarton's 6.1 also runs between Matlock and Bakewell. Haddon Hall's own travel page confirms the TransPeak and 6.1 from Matlock as hourly in the daytime with a journey of 25 to 30 minutes. From Sheffield, the 218 bus covers the whole way.
