Royal Pier and Promenade

Aberystwyth's Royal Pier was the first pleasure pier to open in Wales, in 1865, according to the pier itself. Today it carries an arcade, a billiard bar with shuffleboard, the Inn on the Pier and a fish bar. The prom runs from the castle to the foot of Constitution Hill, past the Old College and the bandstand on Marine Terrace. At the northern end is the iron bar that students kick for luck; many theories exist and none is proven. In autumn and winter starlings roost under the pier at dusk.

Tips

→Only food and drink bought on the pier may be eaten on it. Under-18s must be supervised and are not allowed in the arcade without a parent after 2pm.
→Dogs on the pier are allowed on the front decking and in nominated zones, and must leave by 9pm.
→Seafront on-street parking is charged from 08:00 to 20:00 since 18 May 2026.
