The reason the village exists: a long, open Atlantic beach directly below Knocknarea, facing northwest into the swell. It is genuinely not safe for swimming, permanent rip currents and no lifeguard cover, and every local will tell a visitor this within a minute of arriving. What it is very good for is surfing, beach walks, and watching the sunset, since the beach faces directly into it.

- →Do not swim here; the rip currents are strong and permanent, even on calm-looking days.
- →The seafront car park fills early on dry summer weekends; a second car park a short walk up the main road usually has space.
