Strandhill beach has permanent rip currents and is not considered safe for swimming; there is no lifeguard service. For a beach or water incident dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard. Tide-crossing to Coney Island via Culleenamore is dangerous without local knowledge of the tide times.

Free parking along the seafront near the beach and surf schools; fills up quickly on dry weekends and in summer. A second car park a short walk up the main road usually has space when the seafront is full.
