Castlemartyr is its own village, about 7km east of Midleton on the Youghal road, and the resort is the reason most people have heard of it. It is a five-star property built around a seventeenth-century manor house beside the ruins of a castle, with a spa, an eighteen-hole golf course and a country club, and it holds two MICHELIN stars at its restaurant TERRE, which is as serious as dining gets in this part of the county. Rooms run from deluxe guest rooms up through junior suites to the manor house state rooms, and there are self-contained residences in the grounds. It is not in Midleton and you will want a car, but it is close enough that a Midleton itinerary built on the distillery and the greenway works perfectly well from here.
