Local Essentials
The practical stuff most travel sites skip. Everything you need to know before visiting Kinsale, from parking to pharmacies.
Accessibility
Town Centre
The waterfront along Pier Road and the lower town are mostly level, but Kinsale climbs steeply away from the harbour and many of the older streets are narrow with high kerbs and cobbles. The town-centre car parks are close to the waterfront.
Scilly Walk
The Scilly Walk to Summercove is a mostly level water's-edge path with some boardwalk sections, but it has uneven ground and is not fully wheelchair accessible along its whole length.
Charles Fort
Charles Fort has level access to the visitor centre and the lower parade ground, but the ramparts and upper bastions involve steep ramps, steps and uneven historic surfaces. Contact the OPW in advance about access.
Old Head
The Lusitania Museum and signal tower at the Old Head has parking and accessible facilities; contact ahead about access to the tower itself, which is a restored historic structure.
For venue-level access, contact each venue directly. The harbour is sheltered but the town is hilly; the waterfront is the most accessible area.
ATMs & Banking
Bank ATMs, Pearse Street
Pearse Street / Emmet Place
ATMs in the town centre around Pearse Street and Emmet Place. SuperValu on Pearse Street also has a cash machine. Card payment is accepted almost everywhere; the Wednesday farmers market and some smaller stalls prefer cash.
Bike Rental
No town bike-share
There is no public bike-share scheme in Kinsale. The roads out to the Old Head and Garrettstown are scenic but narrow and hilly; cycling is best for confident riders.
