Jaunting Car Tour
About
The jaunting car, a horse-drawn open carriage driven by a local jarvey, is the oldest tourist tradition in Killarney and still one of the best ways to get a feel for the park at a slower pace. Routes run from stands near the town and the cathedral out to Ross Castle, Muckross or the Gap, and the jarvey's running commentary, part history, part tall tale, is half the point. You can book ahead with operators such as Killarney Jaunting Cars or simply arrange a trip at the stands; fares are set by the driver, so agree the route and price first.
